String of Lights

Ornament Keepsakes has lots of Christmas bulbs, but did you know there is a light bulb in this set?! Such pretty ones too :)

I started with this color challenge from my friend and fellow Minnesotan, Holly at Rubber Redneck. It made me think of the big strings of old fashioned Christmas lights.

Then I added this sketch challenge from Nacho Average Challenges, and I had quite a nice recipe!

I had originally decided to do some Christmas ornaments hanging from a bough, but then I spied a stamp in this set that looked like those fun, old light strings. I got all excited and dove right in! I love it when an idea turns out well. I needed some glitz on this card, so the glimmer paper was a must!
  • Stamps: Ornament Keepsakes, Endless Wishes
  • Ink: Gumball Green, Tempting Turquoise, Real Red, Crushed Curry
  • Paper: Real Red card stock and Core'dinations, Crumb Cake, White, Champagne Glimmer
  • Other: Big Shot with Stylish Stripes embossing folder, Holiday Ornaments and Bitty Banners framelits, and Expressions thinlits, Sanding Block, Signo white gel pen, Stampin' Dimensionals, black pen
More lights on the inside. I haven't decided what to put on the inside, but I will before I send it out. This one is actually pretty flat with only on layer of dimensionals :)

I hope your weekend is going well, and that you come back on Monday to check out the first edition of the Stamp Review Crew Blog Hop. I am so excited to share this with you!

Snow Angel Joy

Do you remember this little snow angel from last year's Holiday Mini? I just love this set, and had to bring it out to play with this background.

http://unscriptedsketches.com/2013/11/unscripted-sketches-232/

This sketch from Unscripted Sketches is what started it all. My friend, and very talented stamper, Adriana made a stunning card with this sketch here with strips of DSP as the stripes! That is what pushed me over the edge and made me create this card.

I cut ¾" strips of the DSP and glued them down on a 4¾" square of Smokey Slate to create the diagonal striped pattern. I was going for a winter thinking-of-you card and I think this would work as a non-Christmas winter card. And I couldn't pass up the sequins that seem to coordinate so well with the turquoise to teal colors we have in the current SU palette :) The trim on this little angel are painted with Frost White shimmer paint and an Aqua-painter, which is still available on the clearance rack right now. Love this stuff!
  • Winter Wonderland, Endless Wishes
  • Ink: Jet Black Stazon, Illuminate, Bermuda Bay, Pool Party, Silver Encore, Smokey Slate
  • Paper: Pool Party, Smokey Slate, Bermuda Bay, White, Winter Frost DSP pack
  • Other: Big Shot with Deco Label and Circle framelits, 1" Square punch, Blender Pen, Frost White shimmer paint with Aqua-painter, Signo white gel pen, Stampin' Dimensionals, sequins, sewing machine and thread
Inside, snowflakes are stamped in Pool Party, Bermuda Bay, and Illuminate. You can see that also see that I used a lot of dimension on the main image. That was not intentional! I added the Bermuda Bay layer at the end, as the main image seemed to blend in to the background without that pop of color.

Countdown to the first ever Stamp Review Crew blog hop- 5 days to go! Don't miss it :) It just so happens that Stampin' Up has had such a good turnout for the Holiday Sale, they are having more 24 hour only sale items on Dec. 2nd, 2013 also! It happens to be Cyber Monday also :)

Endless Evergreen

Did you know that the Evergreen stamp set from last year is still available? I bought it last year because there were so many sweet ideas with it. Then Christmas season passed and I never inked it up! Shameful, right?! Also, the Endless Wishes  photopolymer stamp set sold out and is now available only as an MDS download. Boy, am I glad I got it as a stamp :) Stamps are really my first love, although I can still do some cool stuff with MDS. I just like to keep my options open :)

This sketch from Retro Sketches is what started it all for me. I was sitting here thinking about what I could use as the three pieces across the card. The trees from Evergreen popped into my head!

Then I thought I would try this "Triple Threat" color challenge from Dynamic Duos! I do love pink and green together :)

I tried layering these images together, but the colors don't really work well that way. So I kept it simple with only one image per panel. The paper piercing and embossing really help to add interest. And the three strips of silver ribbon help to unify the images a little more.

  • Stamps: Evergreen, Endless Wishes
  • Ink: Blushing Bride, Pear Pizzazz, Raspberry Ripple, Silver Encore
  • Paper: White, Blushing Bride card stock and Core'dinations
  • Other: Big Shot with Stylish Stripes embossing folder and Apothecary Accents framelits, 1" Square punch, Essentials Paper Piercing Pack, Paper Piercer and Mat, Silver 1/8" ribbon, Sanding Block, Stampin' Dimensionals, sewing machine and thread

Inside is another pink tree with the sentiment from Evergreen in red. I was going to outline the inside, but I decided not too. It looks good just the way it is :)

Don't forget to go check out the Holiday Sale- one this card alone I used three things that are on this sale: Essentials Paper Piercing Pack, Encore ink pad, and Subtles Core'dinations card stock! Great savings you don't want to miss. The sale ends December 2, 2013 at Midnight MST. Make sure your familes have your wish list and send them my way, I can make sure you get the Christmas presents you want ;)
